Multiplayer is pretty dead unless you use custom servers [RP and Full Invasion servers are about it atm] Singleplayer is obviously incredible though, and modding is good but I don't think it'll ever reach the levels it was in warband

Online is only modes like TDM, Siege, Captain etc. You can't play the campaign co-op. The word optional means you don't have to. If you mean the campaign, then no, you can't. Well yeah.
